Tea Tree oil has been used in eyecare for many years. Tea tree oil benefits include working as an antimicrobial and anti inflammatory. Tea tree oil uses for the eyes include helping with blepharitis, eyelid styes, cleaning eyelash extensions, meibomian gland dysfunction, dry eyes and demodex mites.

A 2020 publication concluded that the active ingredient in tea tree oil was toxic to meibomian gland cells in vitro. Since then, some eye doctors have been concerned about tea tree oil causing dry eyes to get worse, however, as we discuss in this video, that specific study may have some flaws.

  1. I think you info is not entirely accurate. Duration of application is the amount of time the tea tree product is on your eyelid until you wash it off.

  2. I bought tea tree oil from a "health food store" because it was suggested as a remedy for nail fungus. The concentration was not stated on the bottle. I sucked some into an eye dropper. It dissolved the dropper rubber bulb! I can’t imagine someone using it on or in their bodies.

  3. I may relate to the 15 miin; because my 👀 CARE Routine has 3 STEPS; 1) Cleansing … 2) Creaming, 3) Hydrating, 4) Massaging and 5) Masking … So I’ve used TEA TREE OIL for many things . When it comes to the eyes, Tea Tree Oil is used in step 4 for EYES MASSAGE Or it will show when I am doing a weekly / monthly OVERNIGHT EYE MASK (Step 5). When my 👀 are being massaged, sometimes it can take me from 15min to an 1h30min depending on what I am using, my hands, an eye massager or a traditional thread… However it has not caused any of the side effects mentioned ab😍😍😍😍😍ve…

  4. I tried the wipes and had an allergic reaction, which later resulted in a chalazion. Tea tree oil in general isn’t well tolerated by me. Individuals with rosacea and more sensitive skin like myself should probably patch test tea tree oil before taking a deep dive.

  5. So studies funded by the pharmaceutical industry so that you remain sick and they can keep selling you their sugar water. Thank you @DoctorEyeHealth for the clarification

  6. You don’t explain what meiobian glands are and what their function is. Do they regenerate or do they permanently experience cell death? I used tea tree oil diluted on my eye lids for an hour at least…. It was a premixed product with tea tree oil in an oil base from the manufacturer designed for face, hair etc. I hope I don’t have permanent damage to these glands…

  7. Reporting now after 10 weeks regimented tea tree and castor oils. I am ecstatic to say my blepharitis is now in remission and my symptoms gone. No side effects to my vision. Such a relief.

  8. I got ya Doctor …..Hell Naw y’all betta leave that tea tree oil off y’all’s eyes and the surrounding area 😂💯

  9. If one wishes to use Tea Tree Oil, what is the right ratio of Oil:Water, to put it on a Q-tip and apply to lids near lashes?

  10. You may only use it for seconds but it is absorbed and stays there for much longer so the time claim does not hold water without real data to back it up.. Professor John Ioannidis Professor of Public Medicine and a polymath whose institute in Athens examines medical papers finds that most doctors have abysmal mathematical skills, especially where they involve statistics as they must in all proper trials where we are dealing with probabilities. As a physiologist, your vague assertions do not give me any confidence in your conclusions and I must continue to look for a safe treatment for my eye mites, perhaps the new dug XDEMVY from the German company Taurus backed by real studies.

  11. That oil stings the skin! I imagine the feeling like death. Cell death and running to the sink to rinse it off very quickly.

  12. 5% Permethrin is used for scabies mites, and I looked it up and found that it is also effective on Demodex mites, but I don’t know how to apply it. Also, Ivermectin is specifically designed to rid the body of parasites. It normally comes in pill form, taken in two doses based on body weight about two weeks apart. What are your thoughts on these two options?

  13. I’ve started using TEA TREE LID WIPES by TheEyeDoctor and they have done miracles. It doesn’t even sting. After watching this video I’m a little concerned though. How long should I use these wipes? Is it safe to use them from time to time?

  14. No essential oils for eyetreatments are known or recommended by hp’s or aromatherapists here in Europe…🤭😏

  15. Optase TTOil Eyelid wipes ~ [Aqua, Polysorbate 20, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Chamomila Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Hyaluronic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Disodium Cocoamphodeacetate, Limonene]…PLUS I switched over to Optase Dry Eye Intense Drops….I like them!!! I also have psoriasis crop up this year on & around my eyes & eyelids..yet a new twist to my dry eye syndrome

  16. i shmeared tea tree oil on for mite explosion. It was Hiroshima for them. I got to sleep and my immune system strengthened and helped after a few nights.

  17. I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence but I used a tea tree oil based eyelid cleanser gel and I developed a stye very quickly after commencing which I’ve never had before.

  18. Would Tea Tree oil be ok to treat a small skin tag in on the inside corner of the eye? This is a very tiny almost grain of sand tag.

  19. I thought I had a ste but it’s 2 an half weeks been around. I have little bumps on three eyelashes plus pus inside. Warm compress not doing it. Tee tree ok to put on lower lid. There is also a red bump there too.
    This is Judy.

  20. Dear Doctor, I had to use for 40 days twice a day NAVIBLEF DAILY TTO 0,02 . I m new to this I have been massaging my eyelid ( eyelashes ) till brows counting till 100. Maybe was to much? I lost periorbital fat loss I m only 35! My skin in thin and My eyes look sunken and hollow! I always had droppy eyelid before starting the treat meant I m now also scared I could have damaged upper glands I cannot sleep anymore because of the fear 😢

  21. 🙌🏻 2024. I can confirm that tea tree oil is good. Towards the end of 2023, my wife started having symptoms of redness and itchy eyes. We thought it was from food allergies or airborne allergies but it wasn’t. My wife isn’t allergic to dogs but after having encountered with her nephews dog, those symptoms started and never went away for several months. EYE MITES was the cause. We did sterile eye wash, wipes and Tea Tree Oil. Right away, she felt so much relief. She no longer wakes up in the middle of the night scratching her eyelids. Her eyes are no longer red. Only thing we are dealing with is slight dry eye lids.

  22. The European Commission has expressed concerns about the safety of tea tree oil as a commercial product. The commission noted that the safety dossier for tea tree oil is incomplete, and that the stability of the oil in cosmetics is questionable. The commission also said that the oil’s skin and eye irritation were not assessed using adequate methods.
Tea tree oil can be toxic if ingested orally, and can cause serious symptoms such as confusion, coma, and breathing problems. It can also cause skin irritation and allergic reactions, especially in higher concentrations. Using tea tree oil in the eyes can cause corneal damage.

  23. How about Cliradex wash foam? This foam is expected to be left on the eyes to dry overnight and not rinsed. I use it all the time

  24. One of my eyes suddenly started watering heavily and it seemed like there was something in it. I tried irrigating the eye , but it just felt as though my lashes were catching on something when I blinked. My ophthalmologist recommended tea tree wash for mites on my lashes. He said most people have mites, but I seem to have more than my share. I have a bottle of 100% tea tree oil and I put a bit on my finger and diluted with water and rubbed on my lashes trying not to get any in my eye. How does one apply the oil? I’ve also ordered treated wipes. What does the tea tree oil do to eliminate the mites? I didn’t ask the right questions of my ophthalmologist

  25. OI have been told O have blepharitis.I do not have dry eyes.I have wet eyes.In the morning they are goopy .What’s the best wipe for this?

  26. Ok but when you are told to use it everyday 2 times a day for the rest of your life literally on the MG which my eye doctor said to do then you are going to have dead MG. I think eye doctors are prescribing this on purpose to get repeat customer that never heals and are not giving them the truth.

  27. I had a huge problem with face mites and nothing l did helped … Then l found out about using Tea Tree oil. Luckily l live in Australia and we have an amazing company called Thursday plantation 😊 they make a large amount of face products … it took 3 weeks and l my face is absolutely clear ! … l will continue to use the products because l like them but WOW Tree Tea is WONDERFUL !!!
